It's a crying shame really. So many people have tried to follow the Internet dream. They've heard the stories of others who quit their day jobs, wake up whenever they choose, take leisurely lunches with friends, shop for hours on end without one worry about how to pay for their purchases, buy new cars and pay cash for them, and make money hand over fist while they sleep. Naturally, these people would drool over the thought of being able to do the same for themselves.

However, as the landslide of people all across the globe began to flock to the 'Net much like they did to California in the gold-rush days, they find that making money while you sleep might be a myth. They wonder if they've just been led astray by wicked, evil people with nothing better to do than make fools out of innocent, hardworking folks.

What is the answer? Can you make money online? CAN you make money while you sleep? I don't mean an extra $200 a month to pay for groceries, but a real living. If so, how do you go about it?

It's True! I'm Doing It Myself!

First of all, it's not a myth. I can honestly tell you that I am making a full-time living online. And yes, there have been many mornings where I've awakened, turned on my computer, and found notifications of sales that occurred during the night. I AM making money while I sleep, and you can, too.

Let me tell you what I think probably happened to generate this long-standing myth.

The early Internet pioneers discovered ways to make automated income. They realized this was a wonderful thing and began to spread the news to everyone they knew. Then, however, those unscrupulous types (you know... the jerks) saw this as an easy way to make a fast buck. They began preaching that making automated income online was as easy as pouring yourself a glass of water. In essence, they told half the story. As more and more people tried to make a living online and failed, the promise of making money while you sleep became fiction instead of fact.

So How Do You Do It?

What's the real truth? How can you make a full-time living online just like me? There are several ways. Let me give you the unvarnished gospel when it comes to online business. You may not like what you hear, but it is fact, not fluff.

ACTION STEP 1

Plan, Plan, Plan - It won't happen overnight. Nothing good ever does. In the beginning, you're going to create a plan then be ready to work that plan. You often hear about throwing up a website and making money while you sleep. Technically, yes, that's all there is to it. But... how does that site get up on the 'Net?

You have to create your site or have someone else create it. That means you have to take the time to learn professional website development (PLEASE, don't create some junky, homemade-looking site!), or you have to pay someone who already knows how to create websites. And what will you have on your site? Your own products? (Having your own e-products is highly recommended.) Someone else's products? You'll need to decide before your site is created.

How will people pay for the products they buy from your site? Do you have a merchant account? Will you become an affiliate for someone else so you don't need a payment system?

Will you go for high search engine rankings or rely on word-of-mouth, PPC ads, and other types of paid advertising? If you want good search engine optimization, you'll have to plan for that upfront. Again, you'll have to take time to learn how to do it or pay someone else who already knows how.

Before you take one more step toward launching your own Web business, find the answers to the questions above.

ACTION STEP 2

Be Ready to Work - Once your site is ready to launch, how will people find you? How, exactly, will you drive qualified visitors to your site? Will you use organic (free) search engine listings? Will you use Pay-Per-Click search engine ads? Will you buy ezine ads? Do you have other means for getting customers to visit your site? People won't just come out of the blue, you'll have to bring them to your site somehow.

Even if you choose to go for the organic search engine listings, you'll have about a 4-week to 4-month wait before seeing your new site listed. What will you do in the meantime to drum up business?

ACTION STEP 3

How Will You Keep It Going? - Prosperous businesses are continually growing to keep up with customer demands. How will you keep your online business moving forward? Will you do research into what consumers want? Will you guess? Will you just follow the crowd?

You'll want to have some method for gauging customer responses so you can know what your site visitors want and how to provide it for them.

One such way is to use Survey Monkey (www.surveymonkey.com). You can create online surveys in order to keep up with the needs/wants of your site visitors.

ACTION STEP 4

Service Is Key! - In order to make it in the long run, you simply must provide exceptional customer service to your clients. Those who lie, steal, cheat, or hide are destined to fail.

Understand this: Your success depends on your customers' success. If they aren't happy, you won't be in business long. Make every effort to treat them as the kings and queens they are.

See? The people who turned the "make money while you sleep" fact into fiction did so because they skipped all the important information. Now that you know what to expect, you can see that it is most definitely possible to make a full-time living online. It is even possible to make money while you sleep. However, you must have a plan, be ready to work, look for ways to keep your business growing, and treat your customers as true V.I.P.s.

When you do, you'll have all the tools you need to develop a long-standing business that - with time - will produce for you.

YOU'VE SEEN IT ALL!

Whether it's EBay reselling, Google adwords, affiliate programs, reselling cd roms, rewriting ebooks or whatever, you've probably seen it or bought it. I suppose I am completely gullible because I have fallen for pretty much all of them. This month I finally sat down and decided to take a realistic look at all the pure crap that's out there promising to make you rich.

If there's even a slight chance that you can make money at somthing, someone will write an ebook and claim that you can make a bundle at it at home in your undies.

What I found is that every single program I purchased, from the $9.95 ebook to the $350 binder were mostly recycled filler material. There is literally nothing that 99% of the ebooks on the Internet can teach you that you don't already know or could learn for free.

There is one ebook on the Internet that sells quite well by a man who claims to make millions every year online. For $97 he'll show you exactly how to do it. No B.S. Interested? So was I. I bought it. Another good chunk of cash down the drain.

Well at least you can benefit from my mistake and listen to what I learned from this phony "millionaire". Here is a direct excerpt from his ebook on how to make a lot of money selling your own informational product: "Notice the top 10 selling products...These things sell. So don't reinvent the wheel. Make a similar site, make it look better, sound better, and price it lower." Now listen to this part: "I always make a killer website that sells. And you can give people hope in many ways with many different products, but I find it most effective with informational products because somehow you can get away with practically promising the world, and then under-delivering. You are basically telling people what they want to hear."

Here's someone who sells ebooks and other digital products online admitting that he promises the world and then under delivers as a standard practice. Oh did I mention that he also wants you to resell his worthless ebook as an affiliate?

Is there no hope for making a decent profit on the Internet? It seemed that way to me, especially after reading so much expensive garbage. But I did find something that really gave me a sense of hope again. One day a couple of months ago I stumbled on something called E-Currencies investing and exchanging. 'Oh great, another stinking scam', I thought. But the more reading I did, the more I began to regain a sense of hope that there really was a great way to make income online. I found forums where real people were doing this as though it were nothing new. I found a training company with a real phone number and called it and got an actual person on the phone! This was different.

So, I took the plunge. I purchased their (rather expensive) course at and went for it. I invested what was left in a stock market account that had gone south - around $2,000 into the system. You can actually get started with as little as $50-$100 but I wanted a head start. The business is to join a network of people that converts one type of Internet based currency to another form for a fee. Apparently Internet based currencies like E-Gold have become enormously popular internationally.

Each day I administered my portfolio of E-Currencies as I had been taught and each day it grew. About two months latter, my portfolio is now up to just over $10,000.00. I didn't gamble my money because this is not stock or commodities or any other securities investing. So your portfolio does not go down. It only goes up at different rates.

I had finally made some money on the Internet. And the best part was that I didn't have to sell anything or place a single ad or even compete with another person. A lot of people hear about this market and call it a scam because it sounds too good to be true. I don't blame them, but I don't really care what they think because I'm finally profitable.

The conclusion? Do yourself a favor and quit falling for all those lame ebooks and programs. Find a real online business and quit trying to get rich over night. Maybe E-Currencies are your ticket, maybe not. The training program that I used is at www.dxprofessional.com. Their program is not cheap, but as we've learned here, you can't get into a new profitable business online by buying a $97 ebook from some fake "millionaire".

Whatever you do, I wish you the best success and next time, think twice before pushing the buy button on that ebook promissing to make you rich.

Everybody is hot on using RSS to increase their traffic, promote their sites and do their marketing. Why?

Well, it's newish - at least within the internet marketing segment. Not as new as it was a year or so ago, of course. Getting significant results is a little harder as the competition increases.

With the profusion of blogs and spam blog-pinging to attract the search engine spiders to index static pages, the utility of this approach has been seriously impaired by unscrupulous overkill.

Pinging every 3 minutes is - even to an idiot - absurd - or at least it should be. Why not just scream, "I AM AN AUTOMATED SEARCH ENGINE SPAM PROGRAM." Lovely footprint, very hard for even a seriously brain-damaged bot to identify.

Still there are a lot of sites with RSS feeds that are real feeds being produced as pages change and new content is added. So, yes, RSS feeds still work. Maybe not as fast and maybe they are less powerful than they were, but RSS remains a valid and increasingly necessary part of site promotion.

Techniques do get abused and the early rapid response tends to decline as a result. If people were a little clearer about what they're doing and why and how it all works, the frenzied search for new approaches could, perhaps, be a little less daunting. And if the quick buck artists were less successful at misleading people into doing things that are bad for everybody in the long run, then . . . but that's how it is, was, and apparently will be forever more.

One thing about a real feed - it's for more than getting bots to index your pages. If that's all you want then you can stop reading here.

For the remaining readers (if any), consider the single most critical element of any marketing or website promotion effort. You can have the most magnificent site, the greatest ever-changing content, beautiful and valid feeds in all formats -- and very little in the way of traffic. Unlike the search engines who have all those lovely spiders we are so hot to gain the attention of - most blog/RSS search engines and directories do not send out bots in search of RSS feeds.

Nope. You have got to submit to them. I know. I've done the smart thing - submit to a bunch - and the incredibly unspeakably stupid thing - letting the submissions slide because, frankly, it's a horrible boring tedious and extremely boring (did, I mention how boring it is?) job. That's not a very pretty admission, but there you are. I have a limited ability to tolerate severe boredom - even when I know I'm hurting myself.

And if you don't do the submissions, you won't get the traffic you could have. And that means fewer conversions, sales, opt-ins or whatever it is your site is about.

Ah, but there are answers to this problem. RSS submission services exist and so do RSS submission tools. In fact here's a new (still in beta) service that allows you to submit to 17 blog/RSS search engines - with more promised - for free. It's called FeedShot and you can find it at www.feedshot.com.

Now with FeedShot you need to enter each feed individually. Just to be clear here you should realize that you can create and use RSS feeds without ever using any of the ping sites. RSS feed updates are noted by RSS readers/aggregators which check feeds for new content either on demand or on a schedule. RSS/blog search directories also check on a regular basis. Users find your feed through these directories. Again, if you want visitors, then no matter how you do it, you've got to submit.

Obviously, if your feed is produced by a blog, you'll want to notify ping sites when your content is updated. But you still need to submit the feeds. And you can also submit your blog URL to a whole host of pure blog directories, but that's a different subject.

The people who use RSS readers/aggregators in addition to or in place of a browser are the real target group for RSS marketing. When you consider how and what you want to market with RSS, keep in mind that this group tends to still be made up of relatively affluent, early adopters with some technical sophistication, a taste for new technology, a low boredom threshold and a keen appreciation of the value of their time. And don't forget to submit.

Perseverance

As a relatively new comer to internet commerce, I have indeed learned a great deal about doing business online and internet marketing!

First, it's not as easy as I perceived it would be. I thought it would be simple! Well, I have learned that without my mentor and trainer, I would not have had any idea what to do. So, if you are thinking about starting an online business, it would be wise to choose one with a really good training program, and proven leadership.

Then, I have heard a lot of negative comments in forums about online businesses and how often someone fails. I have chosen to listen only to the positive comments and make my business a success. You have to make the choice, keep on going or give up!

Giving up is easy, but failure is not. I chose to start my own online business because I wanted to succeed. I refuse to believe I am going to fail! Anything worth any time and money spent is worth perseverance.

Of course, it helps when you have chosen the right business for you, and a program that has great educational tools at your disposal. You have to believe in your product, or you have failed from the beginning. So, check out your options, and choose wisely. If your choose a business you believe in and you believe in yourself, anything is possible. Hang in there and don't give up!

Then there is the expense! Well, I look at the expenses as an investment in my future. I have learned in my lifetime, what you can expect for nothing is guess what? Nothing! So if you enter into an online business not prepared to invest time, effort and money, what you will get is nothing. However, some expenses can be minimal, if you have chosen wisely and have great leadership to teach you the tools of the trade. You will, however, have to invest some time and effort.

So, to sum up my experiences so far, perseverance, leadership, educational value, and a program you really believe in are key in choosing your online business endeavors. Choose wisely, and keep on keeping on until you reach your goals. Great success can be found by any of us if we choose wisely! And above all, believe in yourself!

Too often, many marketers appear to be "spamming," when they are really just seeking other JV partners. There is a correct way about finding joint venture partners and getting them to say yes to your proposal. Here's a few tips to get you started right away.

Don't use a template style letter and email all potential partners with that letter. Take the time to visit their site and make personal comments about it in your proposal. Let your future J.V. partner know that you have taken the time to contact him/her personally.

If you have an affiliate program in place, offer your potential partners a higher commission rate rather than simply paying the standard affiliate rate. Make them feel special.

Lastly, don't give up. If you can't for whatever reason join a joint venture network and you have to go emailing future partners one by one, this can get very tiring. Especially when all you may keep hearing is "no" or you get no reply at all.
